Architecture
Architecture for us is reciprocating the client’s requirement but with an understanding of context, site and climatology factors. Context: Defining a context accentuating the presence of the building, in reference to the surrounding, usage and users. The studio focuses on consciously choosing materials understanding the surroundings and minimum embodied energy consumption. Climatology: While planning and facade Styling, an understanding of sun path & wind direction is established as a basis of placing the functions in the space. Inclusive economy: Selecting a material . technology & element with a conscious of uplifting and promoting a craft form to be a part of the system/ market. Below are a few ongoing/finished project pictures. |

About the project:
The house belongs to a businessman who wanted to create an extrovert house with each space interacting with to the landscaped area outside . Out of 1000 Sq yard the brief was to cover only 3000 Sq feet for a family of 4 adults and 2 kids. The house has a tiny and independent semi public corned for client’s mini office located on first floor well linked with a personal study and a bedroom for the owner. Zoning of the house has been done keeping basic vastu-shastra rules in consideration along with a hierarchy of entrance and semi-public areas and towards the isolated private areas for each family member . Front boundary wall is single piece stone buried in the R.C.C. Beam as an independent 7 feet tall boundary wall. One inch slits left all throughout between every plank gives a clue of entire house’s form from outside without compromising the privacy. The Entry is from East direction and is from almost enter of the building. Entry foyer is a double height area that is a physical partition from both building blocks and connected by a bridge at upper terrace level. The Foyer has a see-through glass facades from both East and West directions and leading to the back stepped slit courtyard with landscaping. Top double height pocket has a solid wall in south direction to cut of the direct sun rays and has windows in other three directions with a view of clear sky. After entering the foyer, left side is dining area leading to kitchen and front study bedroom. Other side has drawing room, a lounge seating and a huge passageway with a gigantic console. About the project:
The site is located at National Highway on East face, city Road on South face and an internal colony on west side. The front is designed to attract the public from national highway for commercial viability, it should be attracting enough to take service lane from fly-over. The project site will be accessible from both the city and highway and they have to be catered independently. The front has a green belt on two roadsides and the accessibility is from service lane under a flyover, hence visibility from a distance was essential. Space is planned to be self-directing and there should not be any sign of confusion. Visually interconnected spaces help users to identify major touch points. Providing cut out in multiple levels helps users to have a sense of orientation. |
Since ground floor and a lower ground floor is seen to do well in the existing complexes around, the planning is done keeping a vast front on both floors for highway audience. The Inter connectivity with commercial spaces is a prime area to consideration, this helps in boosting sales.
Considering the surroundings and current scenario, there will be a provision for surface parking for four buses and sufficient parking for cars. Commercial users to be given an option of surface parking considering the fast accessibility requirement. Along with surface parking, a basement car park is planned with a ramp along with an option of porch used for dropping of passengers. A separate provisions for drop off planned for multiplex/Banquet Facility. |
About the project:
Project site is located in a crowded market area but is very calming inside having a lot of trees. The building is proposed to be introvert enjoying the dense trees and also ignoring the noisy markets and residential colonies facilitating no direct views outside. Other than the vegetation, the site has few existing structures. A heritage entrance gate is the most prominent and is to be blended in design aesthetics. The Gate in the proposal is a formal pedestrian entrance and rest all the space has the building blocks retaining all of the trees. This existing vegetation on site is blended it with built form & landscape. The Heritage gateway is the center of the symmetry and the building is planned reacting to it physically. Formal grid planning is done following a central axis from heritage gateway to the huge arched bridge, maintaining the symmetry of the site. A Huge pedestrian pathways leading to the main piazza below the arched bridge with common waiting and mass interaction area further leading to different blocks of the shopping complex. A dedicated entry is provided for the independent commercial space (banquet or office) at the east corner of the site near to the entrance to avoid the cluttering of visitors. |
Independent shops/kiosks are provided around the central area with organic form language and landscaped roofs. Zoning has been done keeping in mind universal design principles. Buffer Spaces between the inside and the outside are planned to receive least direct sunlight becoming central social interaction areas. The building facade has a screen in the facade planned to cut out south side sun without blocking indirect natural lighting. The planning is done in such a way keeping independent blocks all over the site retaining trees and facilitating the wind flow naturally. Proposed facilities include Shops, Anchor stores, Multiplexes, Gaming zone, gym, spa, Office/banquet/conference spaces. Spaces are planned to be self-directing and there should not be any sign of confusion. Visually interconnected spaces help users to identify major touch points. Also cutouts are provided at multiple levels helping users to have a sense of orientation. Cut-outs & slits are provided in the direction of the wind movement for natural ventilation creating comfortable open spaces to sit and interact. |
About the Project:
The Screen house is a 250 Sq yard property located in Rohtak City of Haryana, Studio has done planning and Facade for the house. The house faces south direction but at the same time has a lawn in front. There was a need for bigger windows to enjoy the lawn view but at the same time had to me screened from the harsh south sun. |
There is a tiltable bamboo screen in wrapped the front of the house and is a only element that overpowers the visual character. The bamboo screen can be tilted to block the front for privacy at night and the same can be rotated back to become a sun shade leaving the balcony front for the view. |

About the protect:
A unique project aiming to develop a manual for bus depot design. “The manual for planning, design, implementation of bus depot for city bus operations.”.The project started with writing a brief with detail requirements, list of equipment, manpower requirement and input from all stakeholders. Forming a design basis agreed and approved from all, next stage was to create layouts for each areas/section as per the codes and standards followed worldwide. These layouts were then put together forming layouts of each specific functional zone and then bringing all together on a hypothetical site explaining the complete process and basis of design throughout the manual. The manual becomes a time saver and a reference book for the consultants and the operating teams involved in any bus depot design projects all over the country. Forming the process/workflow in a space into a zoning plan fulfilling the requirements within the boundaries of codes and compliances. Hypothetical site is taken as per requirement of bus depots. Zoning has been done considering the workflow of bus depot. Admin is kept near entrance and separate parking is provided for admin users and staffs. As bus enters there is a fueling bay following the waiting space for the buses during peak time. After that there comes workshop and washing area.and then parking. The different zones of bus depot are Admin, workshop, washing area, fueling area, parking. There are two type of users one are catering maintenance and others cater operations. The depot is employee-centric. There is no external users or passengers except the ones who need to visit lost and found area. |
The admin is planned keeping the admin current and future operation system specific to bus depot and foot fall in different areas. More footfall areas are kept on ground floor and first floor are left for special utilities with less footfall and accommodations. The workshop are of two types mini workshop and major workshop. Different layouts has been prepared considering both. There are two type of sections as per frequency of usage. One is for periodic maintenance and other is for detailed maintenance that include engine and other detail works. The main consideration in planning circulation is to isolate human circulation with no crisscrossing of human and vehicular circulation pattern to avoid any chances of accident or clutter during peak time. Foreseeing the future scenario, BS6 DPF regeneration areas is planned separately needing more open space around the bus. Catering a broader scenario: Since there will be different bus sizes and site sizes in different scenarios, an elongated version of the bus depot layouts has been planned as per site requirement. Independent bus parking options has been planned as per varying bus numbers and sizes. There are three type of bus depot - Diesel fueling , CNG Fueling & Electric Charging. Three different layouts has been planned considering the varied requirements according to fueling area differences for Diesel, CNG and electrical. Hypothetical expansion area are provided for easy planning and future expansion. |
