Interior Design
Interiors is a reflection of ideologies and values of an individual or a Brand. It starts with understanding the users and their emotions & intent and transforming it into a space in tangible & intangible ways. An experience of transition of the spaces is be laid consciously as a narrative to bind all elements together a whole and to be perceived as one space in totality. This perception becomes a part of an experience that evokes thoughts and feelings thus becoming a part of secondary memory. Below are a few ongoing/finished project pictures. |
About the Project:
The Drawing Room is designed in such a way to have dark walls in contrast with all white entrance area in other corner. The client is a businessman living in DLF, Magnolias, Golf Course Road, Gurugram. His requirement was interior styling with minimum interventions in entrance & drawing room (with area of 1600 Sq Feet) while retaining some of the stuff. The client wanted to do the interventions without moving out. The brief was to derive out of the elements expressed by client linked to his good experiences of previous houses he resided in. Another inspiration was a set of values and beliefs client believes in. In one line explanation of the brief, the house had to be designed inspired from New York loft & with a blend of context and values. The entrance area is completely white with accents of blacks. The set of three paintings on the entrance wall over white console have a very strong interpretation of clients life and struggle days. First is a big painting on top with a partition scene depicting refugees stranded on Lahore station to catch up the train to the place where they have right to live. Second painting has a girl with a laptop on a bullock cart depicting hard work. Third painting is a scene of new york metro depicting the third phase of client’s life. All the three paintings have railway as a common element. (Painting made by phifilms (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCU8sOxkfeXOvPxDOQl5Nqww) The fireplace is a symmetric and a strong element used with two arm chairs & a runner below. The chair & runner are in the shades of tan i.e. the only color introduced at entire area apart from the combination of white matt and a little bit of high-gloss matt. The finishes used in the paneling and fireplace are polyurethane with polyester base for matt surfaces and polyester for gloss surfaces. The finishes are from Sirca paints. (https://www.sirca.it/en/) The Drawing Room is designed in such a way to have dark walls in contrast with all white entrance area in other corner. |
A Kashmiri handmade carpet has been chosen below center table for the seating cluster with subtle & dark tones acting as a binding element for the three existing sofas, a set of bespoke black check-patterned armchairs & elegant tall pedestal tables towards the wall. The window wall has elite black Versace curtains with golden motifs along with the antique brass planters containing tall Arica palms. The Dining The Huge dining table with three pendants on top and with a 12 feet monk's painting has a very strong center line ending towards the symmetric luxury bar. The bar is a monolithic unit finished in matt grey with a niche in center to keep bottles. The niche is finished in high gloss ebony veneer as a highlight in contrast with the outer grey matt and has a light on top to accent bottles. The left side of the bar is a service door leading towards pantry area and is hidden in panelling. Each panel of the bar unit has a unique ebony inlay strip finished in high gloss. The pocket on the top center has a world clock made to the size of the panel. The minimalist clock has black mirror with ebony rings on it.The bar counter top has been made with solid 65mm thick solid ebony wood in lacquer matte finish with a feel of open tectile grains as a bar top. The Decor A life size sculpture of Baba is planned in corner area of entrance to drawing room, dining & bar. The sculpture of baba has been chosen to create a fusion of modern space with religious roots. The corner tall pedestals have two faces in white and black color complementing each other. |
About the Project:
A house in Defense colony is a second home for the client. It had to be designed with minimum interventions, smart budget and had to be completed within 45 days. The client is a businessman and this house is like a place for him to come and rest for a while before or after business meetings. This is the time sandwiched between two meeting which he wants to spend entertaining himself, working out , having meals and to take a nap. The place has to be majorly private other than two rooms for short business meetings and hosting. The entrance with an overlooking shaft being a prominent backdrop and an opportunity to have a tiny experience niche providing a good source of indirect natural light. the shaft is planned as an accenting corner being peaceful inspired by Japanese zen gardens. The walls of the shaft has a concentric texture inspired by zen gardens running all throughout and focusing the center of the main shaft wall highlighting the Buddha placed in front of that. The space is a common circulation area for all the rooms and also connected to service areas (powder room and kitchen). Along with the Buddha with texture background there a lot of greens adding a lively and calming experience and an illusion of shadows changing throughout the day with the intensity of diffused natural lighting. In front of the shaft are two black armchairs placed with Dracaena Mahatma plants placed in nickel and rustic copper planters in front of shaft which placed in a formal and symmetric manner as a foreground to the shaft adding a Mediterranean touch. Center of the entire entrance lobby has highly reflecting glass pendant light dividing the background view and adding to the symmetry if the space. The existing material pallet has a significant beige marble flooring adding a sense of luxury and warmth,The walls of entrance foyer are earthy brown with tiny dotted grains with standing out huge bananas painting next to the kitchen entry and a Dashavatar painting in passage to the bedroom. The drawing room being a hosting area is planned as a warm and formal setup with a space for seating cluster and a corner for bar enjoying the overlooking huge green belt though big window. There is a huge champa tree placed as a foreground of the dense green belt. The seating cluster has a L-Shape sofa which is existing with same upholstery. The room is wrapped with a earthy brown wallpaper and deep blue velvet curtains retaining some of the old stuff. Since the existing furniture items are bulky, the added elements chosen for the space are lighter visually. the corner has side nested tables from Boconcept (https://www.boconcept.com/hi-in/) are very simple and light and Dracaena Mahatma plant adding a tint of bright red color to the room. |

The color of the wall is classic blue (the Pantone color of the year) along with mild accents of reds, coral color, browns and earthy textures, yielding a deadly combination of a energizing and comforting space. One side of the sofa is a huge painting of Patiala. Other side of the sofa is a stacked bookshelf that is an assembly of simple geometric elements stacked together and creating a unique form. The media unit is main focal point with both workout area and lounge are aligned to it. Back site of the workout area is a rustic wooden sideboard with coral color Fibonacci pattern on it. The space is filled with few plants complementing the color pallet and the windows are dramatized with use of plants, white texture paint and accenting lights. The dining area has all the old existing old mahogany furniture and is blended with lighter beige color striped wallpaper. About the Project
The residence is located on the beautiful hills of Bhattakufar, Shimla overlooking the forested valleys. As the location suggests, the vision for the project was driven around amalgamating the built with the panoramic views and accommodating the colonial vibes of the local architecture within the space. We addressed the Attic area specifically to turn it into a master bedroom being lit up by the skylights and a grand vanity. The parent’s room and the drawing room on the ground floor opened into balconies that overlooked the forested greens of the valley and at the same time were great for establishing interconnectivity within the entire building. With the drawing being designed in French-Formal area style, the entire space is colored in soft and earthy colors. The wooden panels are lacquered painted with stone being the primary choice of material to be used along with all other local materials. The kitchen of the house is designed subtle and solemn with contrasting white shutters. The overall theme of the space is premium along with exploitation of beautiful lush landscapes that resonate with the building. |

It has a metal cover with vegetation that cut sunlight working as a sunshade and filtering the air around. the overall common area is kept to be casual and playful providing a good break time to the employees. About the Project
The requirement was creating a store for a brand House of Nandini, which works closely with the craftsmen of Lucknow. The store is based on the entry by invitation concept. So there is no expectation of direct casual store footfall. All the visit are preplanned and by invitations only & would be for the customers from Local NCR area or the one buying bulk stuff for international markets. The USP of the site is that there is one window which is directly visible from the Lift foyer . The moment we move towards site , we see the display window where premium products have been displayed. Next to the window here is a large glass façade opening up on a huge double height terrace with the main entry door in glass. The moment we enter we see the Nandi and a fountain welcoming guests. There will a series of platforms on the right and huge wall with series of arches which actual is the focal point on the left side respectively. The five arches are main feature of space having an entrance glass door and two glass windows. The remaining one arch will have a traditional brass hammered brand logo which used to be there is Lucknow havelis and palaces and other one will have some mural art. |
The internal part is primarily for display and discussion. the outside terrace is for hosting guests, events , shoots, promotions at certain times when the weather is suitable. The Opposite side of the arches is a partition all in customized bricks inspired from forms of Lucknow with a seating catering the huge horizontality of the views of the skyline of Gurugram.
throughout with highlights of brass in it. The highlights usually contain the two long metal rods for the hanging apparels for display and a display unit that can be seen from inside of display window usually used for keeping selective items. the entrance wall is an arch wall with series of layered arches from inside store with accents of ghungroos in it. To make the entire space monolithic and easy going all the forms are made avoiding right angle edges. The ceiling is in the form of vaults inspired by the structure used in past in havelis of Lucknow. As you enter inside the store, you can get the monolithic feel of the finishes used. From entrance you can see the premium apparel display with a circular platform and hanging mannequins on brass chains. The overall aesthetics fall into beige stucco finish |
About the project
The client for this project, Mr. Rahman, is a retired professor from IIT and was previously residing at the campus housing. His desire was to now move to his first ‘privately-owned property, along with his family, to lead a simple and easy retired life. Our vision aligned with the client’s requirement to create an old-age friendly, green and spacious house for the couple and their kids, adhering to the financial constraints. Since the project’s location was Greater Noida, we could imagine the couple sitting in an open lawn and soaking the winter sun; this also catered to the family’s requirement of accommodating the plants that they already owned. Prioritizing the preservation of antiques, the storage spaces were carefully designed, without interfering with the breathability and sizes of the bedrooms. About the Project Along with comfort and convenience, it was essential to provide the couple with a safe functioning environment which led to the renovation of all the toilets and the staircase. The interiors of the space had to be merged with the already existing flooring, leaving behind the possibility of using bright and contrasting only through accents and decors. The overall theme of the project is minimal and subtle with a touch of rustic/traditional Indian accents merging with landscape, giving the house a feeling of enclosure, closeness, and warmth throughout. |

Regarding the project:
The client, residing in Defense Colony, decided to give their terrace a new dimension and utilize that space more effectively to cut down their heat gain. To complement their vision, we decided to turn the terrace into a private roof garden, which could occasionally be used as hosting space. We focused on designing the terrace without disturbing the resident’s access to the service areas and complementing the lush panoramic forest-like views surrounding the site. Measures were taken to limit the heat gains by replacing materials like granite with Karappa stone at the bar and the toilet’s interiors were rendered black to sensationalize the feel of the space at night. Overall, the theme of the project is luxury driven and landscape centric.. |
